The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced a measure that could make the Consolidated Account Statement (CAS) more useful. The CAS may soon include information related to your deposit accounts along with your existing securities-related information.
The RBI announced this measure in the Governor’s Statement on October 7, 2026. It has said that SEBI-regulated depositories will be facilitated to include deposit account information in the CAS. The measure is expected to be implemented by December 31, 2026.
What is a CAS?
A Consolidated Account Statement, or CAS, is a statement that gives you a combined view of your investments held through your demat accounts.
It can show details such as your securities holdings and transactions during the relevant period. It can also include mutual fund investments and other securities held through the depository system.
The main purpose of a CAS is to give you this information in one statement instead of requiring you to check different investment accounts separately.
Where do you get your CAS?
CAS is generated through the depository system.
In India, the two main depositories are NSDL (National Securities Depository Limited) and CDSL (Central Depository Services (India) Limited). Your demat account is maintained through a Depository Participant (DP), such as a bank or a stockbroker.
You generally receive your CAS through the depository system based on your demat and investment records. The statement may be sent to your registered email address or physical address, depending on the applicable arrangement.
If you have investments across different demat accounts or mutual fund folios linked to the same PAN, the CAS helps bring the relevant information together in one statement.
What is changing?
The RBI has announced that SEBI-regulated depositories will be facilitated to include information related to deposit accounts in the CAS.
Currently, your bank deposits and your securities investments are generally shown through separate records. For example, information about your fixed deposits is available through your bank, while your shares, bonds and other securities are reflected through the demat and depository system.
The new measure could bring relevant deposit account information into the CAS as well. This means the CAS could eventually give you a wider view of your financial holdings in one place.
Will your FD details appear in the CAS?
The RBI has announced the inclusion of deposit account information, but it has not yet explained exactly what information will be shown.
Therefore, it is too early to say that the CAS will show complete fixed deposit details such as the interest rate, maturity date, tenure or maturity amount.
The RBI is expected to provide more clarity on the type of deposit information, format and implementation process in due course.
The exact details will become clearer as the measure is implemented and further instructions are issued.
What does this mean for you?
The change could make it easier for you to keep track of different types of financial assets through one consolidated statement.
Today, you may need to check your bank statements separately for deposits and your CAS or demat account for securities. Once the new system is implemented, relevant deposit information could also form part of the CAS.
This could make the CAS a more useful record of your overall financial holdings.
However, the extent of the information available will depend on the detailed framework that is issued for implementation.
The RBI has set December 31, 2026 as the implementation timeline.
For now, the key announcement is that deposit account information will be facilitated for inclusion in the CAS. More details on exactly what will be included are expected from the RBI and the concerned authorities in the future.
