Motilal Oswal Mutual Fund is launching the Motilal Oswal Multi Asset – Omni Fund of Funds, a new scheme from Motilal Oswal Asset Management Company Limited. The new fund offer (NFO) opens on 21-10-2026. The closing date is not available yet.
A fund of funds does not buy shares or bonds directly. It buys units of other mutual funds. This one spreads your money across equity funds, debt funds and gold and silver ETFs inside a single scheme.
The goal is long-term capital appreciation, meaning growth in your money over many years.

What has Motilal Oswal Mutual Fund launched?
This is an open-ended fund of funds. Open-ended means you can buy and sell units on any business day once the NFO ends. The scheme is managed, not passive, because the team chooses and changes the mix.
Its holdings come in three groups. Equity-oriented schemes, mainly Motilal Oswal funds and ETFs. Debt-oriented schemes from Motilal Oswal and other fund houses. And gold and silver ETFs, which hold the metals in exchange-traded form.
Some of these may be index funds, which copy an index instead of picking stocks. Up to 5% can sit in debt and money market instruments, including cash. SEBI rules bar a fund of funds from investing outside mutual fund schemes, except cash for redemptions.
How does the Motilal Oswal Multi Asset – Omni Fund of Funds strategy work?
Think of it as a basket of baskets. The managers pick the baskets, then adjust the mix over time.
Step | What happens? |
1 | You invest in the NFO at the Rs 10 NAV. |
2 | The managers set a mix across equity, debt, gold and silver within SID limits. |
3 | They pick the underlying funds and ETFs for each slice. |
4 | The scheme buys units of those funds. NFO money is deployed within 30 business days of allotment. |
5 | The managers review markets and shift the mix as their views change. |
6 | Your NAV follows the underlying units, less this scheme’s costs. |
Let’s understand through an example
Say you invest Rs 10,000 in the NFO. At a Rs 10 NAV, you receive about 1,000 units, slightly fewer after stamp duty.
The managers might spread it across an equity index fund, a short-term bond fund and a gold ETF. You hold one scheme, and they handle the rebalancing. This is an illustration, not the actual allocation.
Portfolio allocation of the Motilal Oswal Multi Asset – Omni Fund of Funds
Type of instrument | Minimum (%) | Maximum (%) |
Equity-oriented schemes, ETFs and index funds of Motilal Oswal MF | 10 | 80 |
Debt-oriented schemes, ETFs and index funds | 10 | 80 |
Gold and silver ETFs | 10 | 80 |
Debt and money market instruments, including cash | 0 | 5 |
Together, units of underlying funds and ETFs make up 95% to 100% of the scheme. The SID rules out derivatives, overseas securities, short selling and stock lending. Also read: Shriram Gold ETF Passive FOF NFO.
Investment strategy of this multi-asset fund of funds
The scheme picks funds, not shares or bonds. The managers study market conditions and the medium-term outlook for each asset type, then decide how much goes where.
Costs come in two layers. The scheme can charge up to 2.10% a year of daily net assets. You also bear the running costs of every underlying fund. This is called expense stacking.
Some money can sit in government securities, treasury bills, liquid funds or overnight funds to meet redemptions. Units are bought and sold at NAV, not on a stock exchange, and proceeds are due within 3 working days.
If the mix drifts outside its limits for reasons beyond the AMC’s control, it must be rebalanced within 30 business days.

Motilal Oswal Multi Asset – Omni Fund of Funds Review by Zenith Finserve
The benchmark is 60% equity, 30% short-duration debt and 10% precious metals. Read that as a hint of the intended middle ground, not a promise. The SID lets each group range from 10% to 80%, so the real mix can look quite different.
That points to a long-term goal, perhaps seven to ten years away, with no need to withdraw soon. It can act as a single diversifier, but it adds a second cost layer and leans on Motilal Oswal schemes for equity.
Zenith Finserve does not recommend investing based on an NFO document. Check the fit against your goal, existing holdings, tax position and the final allocation.
