news

Samco Asset Management Private Limited has launched the Samco Equity Savings Fund, an open-ended scheme that invests in equity, arbitrage and debt. The new fund offer (NFO) opens on 19-10-2026 and closes on 02-11-2026.

The fund aims to grow your money over the long term. It mixes shares, arbitrage trades (small price gaps between the cash and futures markets) and debt such as government securities.

Equity savings funds sit between debt and equity mutual funds. This one adds a twist: Samco’s own models help decide how much equity stays hedged.

What has Samco launched with the Samco Equity Savings Fund?

This equity savings fund keeps at least 65% of its money in equity and related instruments. A good part is hedged. Hedging means taking an opposite position in futures, so price moves offset each other.

In arbitrage, the fund buys a stock in the cash market and sells it in the futures market at a higher price. That gap is the return, and it is largely fixed when the trade is made.

The rest goes into debt and money market instruments. The fund may also hold up to 10% each in InvITs (trusts owning assets like roads) and commodity derivatives.

The objective is long term capital growth. Samco states there is no assurance it will be achieved.

How does the Samco Equity Savings Fund strategy work?

Three engines run together: directional equity, arbitrage and debt. Samco’s models help set the weights.

Step

What happens?

1. Raise money

Units are sold at ₹10. The money is invested within 30 business days of allotment.

2. Read the market

Models study market, technical, flow and macroeconomic data.

3. Set the equity mix

Decide how much equity stays hedged and how much stays unhedged.

4. Run arbitrage and hedges

Buy in cash, sell in futures to lock price gaps, and hedge equity.

5. Add the debt layer

Government securities and similar instruments give income and cash for redemptions.

6. Shift when needed

If models signal caution, move to a defensive mix with less unhedged equity.

7. Rebalance

Managers can override the models with their own judgement.

Samco Equity Savings Fund explained with an example

This is an illustration of the process, not a real portfolio or a return forecast.

Say you invest ₹1,00,000. In a normal mix, ₹45,000 could be hedged equity, ₹25,000 unhedged shares and ₹30,000 debt. Equity totals 70%, above the 65% minimum.

If the models turn cautious, it could become ₹60,000 hedged, ₹10,000 unhedged and ₹30,000 debt. Equity stays at 70%, but less of it follows the market directly.

Investment strategy: how the fund picks and manages positions

The net equity part aims for growth. Arbitrage and debt aim for steadier income.

The SID does not list stock screening rules. It names arbitrage tools: cash futures and index arbitrage, calendar spreads, covered calls and event-led trades such as mergers or buybacks.

For debt, the managers use a top-down view of interest rates and the yield curve.

Guardrails include the defensive mix and derivative limits: up to 80% of equity assets for hedging and 50% for non-hedging use. The debt portion keeps cash ready for redemptions.

Potential benefits of the Samco Equity Savings Fund

Potential benefit

Why does it matter?

Three return sources in one fund

Shares, arbitrage and debt do not always move together.

Hedged equity

Offsetting futures positions may make it follow the market less closely.

Debt layer

At least 10% sits in debt for income and liquidity.

Flexible equity levels

Unhedged equity can range from 10% to 40%, or 0% to 15% in defensive mode.

Small SIP entry

SIPs start at ₹250 during the NFO.

Things to know before you invest in the Samco Equity Savings Fund

Point to note

What does it mean?

Returns are not assured

The scheme is not a guaranteed return product.

Models guide, not guarantee

Allocation shifts rely on models and manager judgement. Samco may revise the models.

Derivatives are complex

Leveraged tools can magnify gains and losses. Results depend on execution.

Unhedged equity follows markets

Between 10% and 40% moves directly with share prices in a normal mix.

Interest rates affect debt

Bond prices usually fall when interest rates rise.

Early exit has a cost

A 1% exit load applies if you redeem within 30 days of allotment.

Who may consider the Samco Equity Savings Fund?

Investor type

Why it may fit

A saver wanting a middle path

Debt funds feel too plain, equity funds too bumpy.

A long-term goal holder

A parent in Pune saving for a 2032 education goal.

A first-time SIP investor

A young professional can start with ₹250.

Who may not find it suitable?

Investor type

Why it may not fit

Someone needing money within weeks

A 1% exit load applies in the first 30 days.

A seeker of fixed, assured returns

The fund does not promise returns, unlike a fixed deposit.

An investor wanting full equity gains

Hedging may mean lagging a pure equity fund in strong markets (our interpretation).

Samco Equity Savings Fund review by Zenith Finserve

Zenith Finserve reads this as a fund for someone who wants equity without the full ride. At least 65% sits in equity, but a large share is hedged. Only 10% to 40% moves directly with the market in a normal mix.

The best fit is a goal five or more years away, such as a 2032 education fund, with no need for the money in the first 30 days. The model-driven switching is the feature to understand. Managers keep full discretion, so results depend on both models and people. As a new fund, it has no track record yet.

In a portfolio, it can sit between debt and equity funds without replacing either. Check it against your goal, existing investments and tax position first. This is not a recommendation.
