The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that different Account Aggregators will be able to work with each other. This will make it easier for you to bring your financial information together through a single Account Aggregator. The new system is expected to be implemented by December 31, 2026.
What is an Account Aggregator?
An Account Aggregator is a system that helps you securely share your financial information with financial institutions, based on your consent.
For example, you may have bank accounts, investments or other financial information with different financial institutions. An Account Aggregator can help you share this information digitally when required.
What is changing?
At present, different Account Aggregators operate separately. The RBI now wants them to work together.
This means you can use one Account Aggregator to access financial information available through other Account Aggregators, subject to your consent.
For example, if your financial information is available through different Account Aggregators, you may not have to use each one separately. A single Account Aggregator can help bring the information together.
What does this mean for you?
The change is aimed at making financial data sharing simpler and more convenient.
You will have greater flexibility when you need to share your financial information with a financial institution or other regulated financial service provider. Your consent will continue to be required for sharing the information.
When will this start?
The RBI has said that the interoperability of NBFC Account Aggregators will be implemented by December 31, 2026.
The RBI is expected to provide more details on how the system will work as the implementation progresses.
