Abakkus Mutual Fund has received SEBI approval to establish a Specialized Investment Fund (SIF) under the brand name Fokkus. The fund house plans to develop strategies across equity, debt and hybrid categories.
Abakkus Mutual Fund has received approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to establish a Specialized Investment Fund (SIF). The new SIF will operate under the brand name Fokkus.
The approval was received on 28 August 2026. Abakkus says Fokkus will extend its research-led investment approach and focus on disciplined risk management within the SIF framework.
Fokkus to cover equity, debt and hybrid categories
Abakkus plans to introduce SIF strategies across equity, debt and hybrid categories. However, the fund house has not yet announced the specific investment strategies, asset allocation or launch timelines.
These details will be shared after the required regulatory filings and approvals are completed.
The SIF framework was introduced by SEBI with effect from 1 April 2025. It provides an additional investment structure between traditional mutual fund offerings and portfolio management services.
What does this mean for you?
Abakkus’ entry adds another fund house to the growing SIF segment in India. The launch of Fokkus also indicates that asset management companies are exploring the SIF framework to offer differentiated investment strategies.
However, the approval to establish an SIF does not mean that the specific Fokkus strategies are currently available for investment. Details such as the investment objective, portfolio approach, asset allocation and associated risks will become clearer once the individual strategies are formally announced.
For you, the development is relevant as SIFs continue to emerge as a new category within India’s investment landscape. Understanding the structure and features of each SIF will be important as more strategies become available.
